Alcala McLaren Vale Grenache 2017 - Museum Release

The Heirloom Vineyards Alcala McLaren Vale Grenache was produced from our best McLaren Vale Vineyard whose clones and viticulture embody the very best in cutting edge but old school viticulture and winemaking. Hand tended vines, whole-bunch fermented, basket pressed and stored in French oak barrels from bespoke coopers.

Grenache can be a simple sip or a symphony of the senses, a moment of pleasure or an eternity of contemplation. Only the poet can know, so stop thinking and surrender. The colour is a burgundy hue and an inkier ruby red colour closer to the center of the glass.

The aroma has elementary fruits of raspberry and mulberry, but its site also offers some very unique and distinctive aromas of blackberry and intriguing notes of a spice and pepper, and the perfume of blueberries. The palate is cool, fresh and lightly, but persistently fruity and very zingy. The finish is fine, natural and unforced. This is a masterful essay in winemaking and sense of place. It’s a delicious, confident drink.

The palate is initially intense sweet fruit of cherries and ripe raspberries, but balanced by a tangy acidity, spice from the French and American Oak and an integrated tannin structure.  This is a masterful essay in winemaking and sense of place. It’s a delicious, confident drink. There is some cream and spice from the French Oak but it’s all about the pure fruit. Whole bunch extended maceration, integrated and balanced with fruit.

An extraordinary Grenache from McLaren Vale that will cellar well – 10, 20, 30+ or more years, but is so deliciously perfect now any argument for delayed gratification is almost academic.
